She walked alone, so much pain in her heart
Her eyes they were flat she was pushing a cart
Rank was her flesh no better than dead
And as he passed by her, he just shook his head
How can you look down on those in need?
We should all help each other, will you take the lead?
In this great country, overflowing with riches
How is it there are people still sleeping in ditches?
We are all connected, no one stands alone
Whatever hurts one, will soon hurt our own
A young man on the pavement, seeking warmth from a grate
Curled up like a foetus, he will die in this state
Tight in his hand, was a bottle of rum
She skirted his body, her eyes said, “What scum”
How can you look down on those in need?
We should all help each other, will you take the lead?
In this great country, overflowing with riches
How is it there are people still sleeping in ditches?
We are all connected, no one stands alone
Whatever hurts one, will soon hurt our own
She’s working two jobs, trying to be a good mother
One son joins a gang, she fears losing the other
She must work like this or her home she will lose
Yet those who would judge her, they say she should choose
How can you look down on those in need?
We should all help each other, will you take the lead?
In this great country, overflowing with riches
How is it there are people still sleeping in ditches?
We are all connected, no one stands alone
Whatever hurts one, will soon hurt our own
He begs for a coffee, she just looks away
Oh Lord they’re so stupid, to her friend she did say
Did you hear how he spoke, his accent is strange
Her ignorance is sad, yet she refuses to change
How can you look down on those in need?
We should all help each other, will you take the lead?
In this great country, overflowing with riches
How is it there are people still sleeping in ditches?
We are all connected, no one stands alone
Whatever hurts one, will soon hurt our own
